# Frequently Asked Questions

## Getting started

### Do I need to book Pilates classes in advance?

Yes, we recommend booking ahead to guarantee your spot. Reservations open through our website, our Pilates One app, or the MindBody app, and popular class times fill up fast. We do accept walk-ins, but a walk-in only gets you into a class if a spot is still open, so booking online is the safer way to plan your visit.

### I've never done Pilates before. Can I take a group class?

Yes, you can join a group class as a first-timer, but we highly recommend a private session first. A private introduces you to the reformer and other equipment, lets us check for any injuries, and helps us understand your goals before you join the group room.

### If I'm a beginner, which class should I start with?

Start with TONE full body. It's our open-level class built around precision and understanding the mechanics of Pilates, so it works whether you're brand new or returning to the practice.

### What should I know before my first reformer class?

Plan to arrive 10 minutes early, wear form-fitting clothing, and bring grip socks. Our full first-class guide covers what to expect, what to bring, and how soon you'll feel results: see Your First Reformer Class.

### Is my first class free?

No, we don't offer complimentary classes. Instead we run New Client Specials so you can try the studio at a reduced rate, including a 2-Week Group Classes package and a 30-minute Intro Private.

### Are all of your teachers certified?

Yes, every Pilates One instructor is certified. Our team trains under credentials that include Comprehensive Pilates Teacher Training, PMA-approved programs, and specialty certifications like EFI sports medicine, and founder Jeannine De La Torre holds Mater Pilates Instructor, EFI sports medicine, and Chinese Medicine certifications.

## Booking and policies

### How do I book a class or a private session?

Book a group class through our website, the Pilates One app, or the MindBody app. Private and duet sessions work differently: call us at 786-545-6889 or email info@pilatesone.com so an instructor can set up a time with you, since private sessions shouldn't be booked solo through MindBody.

### What's your class cancellation policy?

We have a strict 12-hour cancellation policy. Cancel at least 12 hours before your class in your MindBody profile or the Pilates One app, or by calling or emailing the studio; canceling later than that counts as a late cancellation. Classes are non-refundable, non-exchangeable, and non-transferable. Membership clients who no-show or cancel late are charged a $20 late cancellation fee, on top of the class already being used from their plan.

### I'm running late. What happens?

Call the studio and we'll hold your spot for up to 10 minutes past the scheduled start. If you're more than 10 minutes late, your reservation may be given to a standby student. First-time students get a shorter window: if this is your first-ever class and you're more than 5 minutes late, we won't be able to let you in, since new clients need a proper introduction to the instructor and equipment. We suggest arriving 10 minutes early for your first visit.

### I'm on a waitlist. What happens if a spot opens up?

You'll be moved into the class automatically once a spot opens, up until 2 hours before the class starts. Once you're added from the waitlist, you'll get an email and/or text letting you know.

## Classes

### How long are classes?

Most classes at Pilates One run 50 minutes. Our Signature classes are the exception, at 45 minutes, and private sessions are also 50 minutes.

### What's the difference between a private session and a duet private session?

A private session is one-on-one instruction, while a duet is two people training together, each with individualized cueing from the instructor. Each participant in a duet needs to purchase their own duet pricing option: a single Duet Private runs $75 per person, with 5- and 10-session duet packs at $350 and $650 per person. Single private sessions are $120, with 5- and 10-session packs at $600 and $1,100. To book either, call 786-545-6889 or email info@pilatesone.com.

### Are classes divided by skill level?

No, our group classes aren't split by level. All of our instructors are certified to cue beginner, intermediate, and advanced clients within the same class, and because we're a boutique studio with small classes, everyone still gets individual attention. One note on class minimums: if two or fewer people are signed up for a group class, we reserve the right to cancel it.

### What should I wear to class?

Wear comfortable, form-fitting workout clothes that let you move freely. Avoid loose clothing, zippers, or metal hardware, since they can catch in the equipment or scratch it.

### Do I need grip socks?

Yes, grip socks are required for every class at Pilates One, no exceptions. Regular socks are too slippery on the equipment, but if you don't have a pair, you can buy grip socks at the studio.

### What's the difference between reformer and mat Pilates?

Reformer Pilates uses a spring-resistance machine that supports and adds resistance to your movement, while mat Pilates relies entirely on body weight. Our full comparison breaks down which is better for beginners, injuries, and calorie burn: see Reformer vs. Mat Pilates.

## Pricing and memberships

### How much does Pilates cost at Pilates One?

Drop-in group classes are $45, with class packs at $200 for 5, $400 for 10, $599 for 20, and $399 for a month of unlimited classes. Private sessions start at $120, with 5- and 10-session packs at $600 and $1,100. New clients can try us out with a New Client Special: 2 Weeks of Group Classes for $88, 1 Month of Group Classes for $149, or a 30-minute Intro Private for $50. For how our pricing compares to other Miami studios, see our Pilates pricing guide.

### What's the difference between memberships and packages?

A membership is a recurring monthly payment with discounted per-class pricing and extra perks, while a package is a one-time purchase of a set number of classes that you use before it expires. See current plans on our Memberships and Packages pages.

### Is there a commitment period for memberships, and can I cancel early?

Yes, all Monthly Auto-Pay Memberships have a minimum 3-month commitment. After that, your membership renews monthly unless you give written notice at least 30 days before your billing date. If you need to cancel before finishing the 3 months, we require 30 days' written notice to info@pilatesone.com and a $150 early termination fee applies. You can also upgrade or downgrade your membership with 15 days' notice before your billing date, though that resets a new 3-month commitment.

### Can I freeze my membership?

Yes, every membership includes 2 free freezes per calendar year, each up to 90 days. Additional freezes are $45, and we need written notice at info@pilatesone.com at least 15 days before your freeze date.

### Can I share my membership, or bring a friend to class?

Memberships themselves can't be sold, shared, or transferred, but every membership includes up to three complimentary buddy passes per calendar year so you can bring a friend or family member to a group class at no charge. Your buddy will need their own account and we ask for written notice to info@pilatesone.com before their visit. Our 20 Studio Group Session package is the one product that can be shared, and only with one other family member.

## Studio and location

### Where is Pilates One located?

We're at 2900 SW 28th Ter., Ste 101, Coconut Grove, FL 33133, in the heart of the Grove near SW 27th Avenue. For directions and drive times from Brickell, Coral Gables, and Key Biscayne, see our Coconut Grove studio guide.

### What are your studio hours?

We're open Monday through Thursday from 7am to 7:30pm, Friday from 7am to 4pm, Saturday from 9am to 1pm, and Sunday from 9am to 12pm.

### Where do I park?

Metered street parking is available directly outside the studio, and we recommend using the Pay By Phone app with parking code 40917. Please allow extra time to park before class. Do not park in the 3 designated "Pilates" spaces behind the building; those are reserved for staff and private session clients only, and unauthorized vehicles are towed by building management without notice. We don't have a front desk, so we can't stop this if it happens.

### How do I contact Pilates One?

Call or text us at 786-545-6889, or email info@pilatesone.com. You can also reach us through the contact form on our Contact page at 2900 SW 28th Ter., Ste 101, Coconut Grove, FL 33133.

### What payment methods do you accept?

We accept Apple Pay and credit or debit cards only. All sales are final, and classes, packages, and memberships are non-refundable.

## Health and special situations

### Is it safe to do Pilates while pregnant?

Yes, Pilates is low impact and generally safe throughout a healthy pregnancy, though we recommend checking with your doctor first and telling your instructor you're expecting. Clients in a healthy pregnancy can take most of our reformer classes, with the exception of Jump Board Reformer. We offer a complimentary 15-minute personal evaluation, done in person, or 50% off a 1-hour private session so an instructor can guide you individually. Call 786-545-6889 or email info@pilatesone.com to set one up.

### Is Pilates safe for postpartum recovery?

Yes, Pilates is one of the most effective ways to rebuild core and pelvic floor strength after birth, and we recommend starting with private sessions before returning to group classes. Our full guide covers recovery timelines, diastasis recti, and when to return: see Prenatal & Postpartum Pilates.

### If I have an injury, can I still take a group class?

It depends on the severity of the injury, but many clients with injuries do fine in a group setting once we know what to modify. We take new clients with injuries seriously and often recommend starting with a Private Session so an instructor can build a program around your specific condition before you join the group room.

### Is Pilates good for back pain?

Yes, Pilates is one of the most effective movement practices for back pain, since reformer exercises strengthen the deep stabilizing muscles of the spine while improving alignment. Our full guide covers herniated discs, post-surgery timelines, and how often to practice: see Pilates for Back Pain.
